Natural, flexible and inexpensive, willow weaving is one of the oldest and most enduring of handicrafts which has recently gained a new lease of life. From simple abstract shapes up to large animal figures, willow creations can be infinitely versatile and surprising durable and what can be more satisfying than making your own willow basket.

Willow can also be worked with as a living material to make living fences, windbreaks and archways or airy green domes, arbours or tunnels which continue to grow and provide a welcome bit of shade in summer months.

Out to Learn Willow have courses to help and inspire you to create beautiful willow structures and sculptures of your very own.

Costs range from £60 per person for a day's course which includes all materials used on the day. Willow courses are for anyone who wants to learn about working with willow and are suitable for complete beginners unless otherwise stated.

What could be more satisfying than making your own beautiful willow basket. On our comprehensive courses participants are shown how to weave using traditional techniques with a variety of willow. Suitable for complete beginners and intermediates.

Learn how to weave an obelisk plant support for climbing plants, a flat trellis or a mini willow hurdle for edging borders or raised beds. Just make sure you come with enough space in your car to take your creations home with you. Suitable for complete beginners.

One day hands-on course in designing and making a living willow structure. You will be shown how to lay out, plant and construct with living willow and help build a large structure. You will also be taught about living willow care and maintenance.

Course participants will learn how to design and create a small animal or bird sculpture or even something abstract!
This course encourages a free and experimental approach and lots of enthusiasm!
Suitable for complete
beginners

Learn to make wreaths, stars, chains and trees on our Crafts for Christmas course, A glass of mulled wine and a warm mince pie make this course a fantastic way to get you into the Christmas spirit. Also learn how to make your very own characterful willow reindeer, the ultimate Christmas addition to your home.

We can even come to you!
If you have a group of up to eight people we can tailor our courses to suit your needs, from £175 a day plus materials. Or if you want to improve your techniques or prefer individual attention we also offer one to one tuition for all abilities, beginners or those with some basket making experience.

Learn how to make one of these fun and lovely stag's heads just in time for Christmas, or a moon gazing hare, a perfect garden sculpture. You will be introduced to several willow weaving and sculpting techniques to help you create these lovely sculptures.

If you don't fancy a whole day willow weaving try one of our short courses, choose from bread and cheese platters, heart wreaths, flowers for the garden or a Christmas wreath. Morning or afternoon sessions throughout the year.
